Dirty Shirley Cocktail

A Dirty Shirley cocktail is a grown-up version of your favorite childhood mocktail: The Shirley Temple. Made with grenadine and lemon-lime soda, it has the same fruity taste you love with a little something extra for the grown-ups. Batch instructions included below!

Recipe ingredients:

  • Vodka. You could use plain or cherry vodka. I’ve listed some popular brands below.
  • Grenadine. That reddish-pink syrup you love! You can buy it by the bottle or use the juice from a jar of maraschino cherries.
  • Lemon-lime soda. 7UP, Sprite, or your favorite brand. Sometimes I use Cherry 7UP.
  • Maraschino cherries. For garnish. And snacking.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Choose your glass and fill it with ice. Pour vodka and grenadine over ice.
  2. Top with lemon-lime soda and stir. Garnish with a cherry.

Recipe tips and variations:

  • Cherry vodka brands: Smirnoff, Three Olives, Svedka, Pinnacle, UV, Skyy
  • Skinny: Use diet lemon-lime soda in place of the regular (Diet 7UP or Sprit Zero Sugar).
  • Non-alcoholic: The classic Shirley Temple is made without vodka.
  • Dirty Shirley Punch, makes a batch of 8 (6-ounce) cocktails:
    • 2 cups vodka
    • 1 cup grenadine
    • 4 cups lemon-lime soda
    • 8 maraschino cherries.
    1. In a large pitcher or bowl, add vodka and grenadine and stir to combine. Carefully stir in lemon-lime soda.
    2. Fill individual glasses with ice and top with 6 ounces Dirty Shirley Punch. Garnish with a cherry.

  1. MO

The real name for this drink is the Betty Ford. Use citron vodka or Bacardi limon.

    1. I feel like you’re half-right. The drink is a Betty Ford if you use citron vodka or Bacardi limon and green grenadine. What is the drink if you use cherry vodka and red grenadine? Worst-case scenario, the drink I have posted is nothing at all, just my own creation I guess. But where I’m from, we call it a Dirty Shirley. -Meggan
